The first filament of its kind using an active foaming technology to achieve lightweight, low density PLA parts. At around 230C this material will start foaming, increasing its volume by nearly 3 times.
Users can decrease material flow by 60% to achieve lightweight parts, or use the expanding properties to effectively reduce print time by using big layer heights or single extra thick perimeters.
Fine tuning and optimization is needed to fully understand and master this material.

Like most, for this foaming material, I use it to print R/C airplanes. I design and fly electric warbirds mostly. This material is enabling us to design and build light airframes with lots of details to reproduce flying things like these WWII warbirds. This one is a zippy 300g, 600mm Ki-84 Hayate - code named Frank - from the Japanese Imperial Army, replacing the Oscar. It was also a later and better design than the Navy's Zeke/Zero. The only downside to the PLA based material is that you need to protect the airframes from the hot summer's sun; so I stick to overall light colors and the shade of a beach umbrella in between missions.
I love this stuff. I like the feel. I love the weight to strength. Been making RC planes. It’s so light.
I am taking my first stab at designing a 3d printed drone. LW-PLA is the print material I want to use. I have had great results using it for other drone parts so I thought i would push out the use even farther.
Generally good as advertised. One serious problem is that it causes light allergic for me. Unlike regular PLA, it should be used in a well ventilated room. I think it contains some industrial chemicals.
Great product and super light. I print RC airplanes so I have to have LW-PLA to give me good air performance. Only minor issue is stringing which is common with the use of this product.
If you have extraction, etc, setting for LW-PLA that you could share it would be appreciated.
Great product but how about a few more colours?
Printed 0.8mm and then 0.4mm think walled test parts. Was easy to dial in after just a few prints. Will be printing an RC airplane very soon
Good for 3d printable Airplanes. It’s Easy to sand and good paint adhesion.
This filament work perfect for thin wall and i obtain strong parts with smooth surfaces without visisble layer at 240c 0.55 extrusion multiplier on my mk3s+ and ender 3v2 modified direct drive
ColorFab LW-PLA is amazing. Print settings are tricky but once dialed in the prints are half the weight of regular PLA. Texture is like paper and it sands better then PLA. Picture is of a 1/22 scale Sopwith Camel fuselage for indoor flying.
This is an extremely tricksy material to make useful objects out of. Below are my cura settings at 240c (max foaming temp) for my direct drive Creality CR10V2 with a 0.2mm nozzle.
Great results, will be buying more of this rapid printing, strong, and light material.
