Cool concept, holds well but if your reel is hung from one side be sure to double check the direction you want it to unreel so that the bolts don’t catch
I absolutely love this concept. Hope to see more and more filament available in the refillable spools! As other mentioned the thumb screws can interfere with most hangers but I use the bearing type as shown. Much more consistent draw on the filament.
The re-fill is a great way to keep costs down on large projects... I have found that I get a few more plugged nozzles (restrictions...not full plugs) than I'm used to seeing, which can be fixed with a job pause and acupuncture needle.
Excellent piece, very sturdy. my only issue is the bolts need to be force-threaded into plastic once they hit the bottom of the captive nuts. other than that, i love it, it worked perfectly with my ABS refill roll.
The concept is good, just the thumbscrews hit the retaining portion of the spool holder. I fixed it by re-tapping the nut inserts to #8-32 and using a panhead machine screw
Its a solid build, and I expect to be able to use it for years.
The idea that every order of filament has to come with a spool is obsolete. Over the lifespan of my single printer, this idea of reusable spools will save hundreds of pounds of plastic, and that's just my single unit. I've used their PLA with great success, and I'm looking forward to trying their ABS, which is currently sitting on my desk waiting for me to construct a draft cover. Great work!
Good spool for refill PLa, PETG or ABS. I don't love bolt because she can get stuck. Better if flat bolt i think. ;)
It's sturdy. Like most everyone says, those thumbscrews stick out making it very important to get direction right for spool holders like the Ender-3. I'm going to replace them cap head screws later to see if that helps. With the thumbscrews, there is a little gap between the two halves, almost like it's meant to accommodate slack in the refills - but sometimes just tends to have the filament fall in tight around the spool hub as it's unwinding. I haven't had it fully get stuck, but I wouldn't leave it unattended like that.
I've used both the manufactured spool and a self-printed one. Both are good and neither gave me any problems. Depending on how many you need it's definitely easier to just buy it instead of printing it. If you just need one, or if you want different colours then printing is a fine option.
I'll probably buy it next time I need more instead of printing just because it's not that much more than the filament and takes a bunch of time.
The 2 screws holding the two sides together get in the way of the spool holder.
Would be better if they were flat with on the side.

These spools are easy to assemble, use, and store. It is possible to interchange filaments if you are careful in the removal of the existing filament.
Also, if you want to print additional spools you can download the file from Filaments.ca.
I strongly prefer the 3d printed versions, especially if I print them out in PETG. The printed ones screw in/out so much smoother. This is fine, really sturdy, but the thumb screw is not great.
Works like a charm... The cost savings of the EchoFill is worth it in the long run for all of us!
great disign, works extremly well, love the reels
Pretty good. would like to see a cardboard one really... we could either re-use or recycle it if it got too damaged. it could just use a combination of printed parts to so join the edges and core, but the printed part would be much smaller and quicker to print than a full master spool.
The quality of the roll and stiffness is fantastic, and it assembles great. There are two lengths of screws for varying filament reloads. One thing to be mindful of though, the assembly screws protrude enough that, if you have a filament roll holder that is 'arm style' like a stock CR-10(s), then the screws will invariably get caught and pull the filament holder (and whatever its' attached to - in my case it was the control box) towards the printer.
Mount your filament on the roll being mindful of if you want it to come off the top or bottom of the roll, and where the screws should be to not get caught on a filament holder.
Otherwise, it's a great price for a great product, that helps reduce a ton of waste.
Got it quick. No hidden fees or sipping cost great price point and I love the Eco part of using the same spool over again. And it's easy to put on the spool... Thanks guys! Keep up the good work
I expected less, but it seems there has been some really good design put into this.
There are little recesses that allow you to place the roll on with zip ties still installed, position it, and then cut and slide the zip ties out. I usually fix the end of the filament through the holes so it wont unravel, then I cut the zip ties and pull them out.
Then you just place the other side on, and use the thumbscrews to complete the install.
Both the rolls I had purchased had extra thumbscrews. I am glad I purchased these rolls, while the 3D printed version probably would of worked, these are way better.
A worth while purchase for sure. ROI is rather quick as I do use quite a bit a filament, even better that the econo rolls are available!
These are great! No more filling the landfill with old spools! Super easy to use. A great design.
very usefuld,good quality.
Good Product at low price,perfect...thanks.
Works great with the refills. Easy to load and go.
PLEASE get more Econo -FILL PETG in stock!! Selection is thin... Thanks
A master spool is a great way to save on waste material and cost.
The product itslef is great but the thumbscrews heads are a bit too large. I had to put my spool holder upside down so the screws does not grind on and prevent the spool from spinning freely. This problem will not affect you if you have a spool holder with bearings inside the the center of the spool. Except that, they work as intended.
Chose it with our last black ABS order and love it. No more wasted spools!
Shipped on time. Arrived early. Bulk 2 piece spool is an easy print and both the red and black print great on stock slicer settings. No fancy footwork required for excellent prints.
