How much temperature can the printed part handle? Wet or dry?

This is linked to the Heat Temperature Deflection Test. We choose the highest ISO standard value at 1.8MPa and both materials standard specimen is handling 120°C in temperature. For this standard test, material are conditioned 48h at 23°C and 50% moisture air before the test. However, this is a general value that is totally dependent to the part geometry.

WARNING:

When melted, XSTRAND™ filament can be abrasive due to its glass reinforcement. Printing with XSTRAND™ may reduce brass nozzles and extruder driving wheels’ lifetime. For a better experience, using hardened steel nozzles and extruder driving wheels is advised.

How quickly does it degrade your hardened nozzle – e.g. how many grams printed before replacement?

On the ultimaker we have 2,432 hours of successful prints using a hardened tool steel nozzle.

Ensure sufficient ventilation in your 3D printing space and avoid inhaling extrusion fumes.

STORAGE:

XSTRAND™ filaments must be stored in a dry and temperate location. The product should remain in its original packaging, preferably closed, until beginning of use.

GF30-PA6 is very sensitive to moisture and must be dried at least 4h in the oven at 80°C prior to use to allow optimal printing results. The spool needs to be stored in a dry case (Pelican type) even during printing if possible.

    Printing Recommendations:

    • XSTRAND™ filaments are designed to be compatible with most of open fused filament fabrication 3D printers available on the market.
    • Hardened steel nozzle is highly recommended to print XSTRAND™. When melted, XSTRAND™ filament can be abrasive due to its glass reinforcement. Using hardened steel nozzles and extruder driving wheels is advised.
    • Nozzle diameter: >0.4mm
    • It’s recommended to start with default setting for nylon materials in the slicer software.
    • Nozzle temperature: 220 – 280 ̊C
    • Bed temperature: 80-110 ̊C
    • Better bed adhesion is achieved using the following components for standard nylon printing:
      - Perforated bed (such as the one on Zortrax machines). If you are using a perforated bed, you don’t need kapton tape or glue sticks.
      - If you are printing on glass bed, a regular all-purpose elmer’s glue stick is preferred for better bed adhesion.
      - If you are printing on PI Katpon adhesive tape, a glue stick is also recommended.
      - Or you can choose to use a PEI sheet
