Developed by Owens Corning, a world leader in composite solutions, XSTRAND® GF30-PC (Glass fiber reinforced Polycarbonate) is designed for functional prototyping and demanding applications such as mechanical engineering, electronics, and automotive. First of its kind, GF30-PC is a reinforced polycarbonate filament with 30% glass fiber content.
BENEFITS & PERFORMANCES:
- Flame retardant
- Electrical insulating
- Low moisture absorption
Up to 250% stronger than common filaments, XSTRAND® GF30-PP, GF30-PA6 and XSTRAND® GF30-PC ensure high performance and wear resistance in the most extreme conditions. Developed with superior durability, XSTRAND® products give you the ability to design and print parts on site in a fraction of the time at a fraction of the cost. Advantages include chemical and UV resistance, thermal stability, superior durability, easy to use, high performance, design flexibility and the ability to test solutions in real world conditions.
What are the applications for the material?
- Mechanical parts
- Automotive prototyping
- Electronics and many others.
How much temperature can the printed part handle? Wet or dry?
- This is linked to the Heat Temperature Deflection Test. The Heat Deflection Temperature of GF30-PC is 137°C.
About Owens Corning:
- A world leader in glass fiber composite
- More than 500 researchers in five R&D centers
- $5.7 billion sales (2016)
- 17,000 employees in 33 countries
- 3D Printing labs in Ohio, USA and France
WARNING:
When melted, XSTRAND™ filament can be abrasive due to its glass reinforcement. Printing with XSTRAND™ may reduce brass nozzles and extruder driving wheels’ lifetime. For a better experience, using hardened steel nozzles and extruder driving wheels is advised.
How quickly does it degrade your hardened nozzle – e.g. how many grams printed before replacement?
On the ultimaker we have 2,432 hours of successful prints using a hardened tool steel nozzle.
Ensure sufficient ventilation in your 3D printing space and avoid inhaling extrusion fumes.
STORAGE:
XSTRAND™ filaments must be stored in a dry and temperate location. The product should remain in its original packaging, preferably closed, until beginning of use.
